A Kentucky State University professor’s proposal for soil health research will be funded through the 1890 Faculty Research Sabbatical Program.

Dr. Maheteme Gebemedhin, assistant professor of soil science, received confirmation recently that his proposal, “Soil Health Assessment: Comparative studies of cover crop and biochar on soil organic carbon,” will be funded by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) through the 1890 Faculty Research Sabbatical Program.

The project received funding of $125,000.

“Congratulations on your outstanding research proposal and thank you for helping us further the ARS research mission for the benefit of U.S. agriculture,” a letter from the USDA to Gebemedhin stated.
